Logan's Run Re-make

I will update this blog as more info becomes available...For the time being it's enough to say that there's a re-make in the works...
This is an absolutely fantastic film, based on a novel by William F. Nolan and George Clayton Johnson it was a spectacular screen adaption albiet not entirely true to the novel. This pre 1977 Sci-Fi film was unfortunately forgotten by most movie fans with the advent of Star Wars, it is never the less a absolute master piece which I consider to be one of the top 5 Science Fiction films of all time. Superb acting by Michael York, Jenny Agutter and Peter Ustinov combined with academy award winning special effects made this movie one of the most memorable I've ever seen. Some people feel this film is dated, I've never really understood what the hell that means, and I could disagree more. This is a perfect movie without faults. It was nominated for three Academy awards back in 1976 Best Art Direction, Best Cinematography, Best Special Effects (won). I wait with anticipation and hope they don't f*ck it up...can anyone say "Rollerball Remake" ???

When Logan returns to the City of Domes for the tribunal, there he describes what has occurred to him outside of the city causing the computer to self-destruct [in a scene eerily reminiscent of the ‘Star Trek’ episode “The Changeling”], taking the entire City of Domes along with it. Then the dumbfounded residents of the city wander around outside of the destruction until they the old man and his cat.
Question: Why does the city self-destruct?? Why does the cause of the self destruction of the computer cause the city to collapse? Its not explained at all. One can argue that the computer was interlinked to the city infrastructure but really its never said during the course of the movie so that would only be guessing.

Why is un-important... it's the symbolism that matters. The society and its people are set free through the destruction of the computer and the city proper. This distruction is brought about by the discovery of truth...a technical explaination as to the chain of event that actually caused the infrastructure to malfunction and bring the machinery to a halt would likley detract from the film, not add to it.
